Cover helps miniatures defend themselves from attacks. Cover is divided into three categories: light, heavy, and no Cover, and is determined during the attack sequence. Some rules refer to Cover having a numerical value that is improved or reduced— light Cover has a value of 1, heavy Cover has a value of 2, and no Cover has a value of 0. The numerical value of Cover cannot be increased above 2 for any reason.
